What goes in your grey recycling bin

Before recycling your waste please clean, rinse and dry it. Place all items loose in your grey bin and not in any carrier bags

The following can be put in your grey bin:
  • aerosol cans (empty)
  • cardboard (clean)
  • cartons including juice, soup, tomatoes, milk and smoothie containers
  • Easter egg boxes, plastic egg mouldings and clean foil wrap
  • Christmas decorations (paper ones without adhesive tape, ribbons and glitter)
  • food and drink cans
  • foil and foil trays - clean (aluminium)
  • glass bottles and jars
  • junk mail (without the plastic wrapping)
  • magazines and catalogues
  • newspapers
  • paper and card
  • plastic bottles and lids (including trigger and pump spray bottles) - milk, squash, shampoo, washing up liquid, detergent, bleach, tablet bottles, sauces, cooking oil, roller-ball bottles
  • plastic food pots, tubs and trays including yoghurt pots, margarine tubs and meat, fruit or vegetable trays
  • shredded paper and envelopes including those with windows
  • wrapping paper (clean and without adhesive tape, ribbons and glitter)

You can leave additional recycling next to your bin in a cardboard box (excluding glass – please put this in your wheelie bin). Please ensure that all recycling is dry and contained.

We cannot accept the following:
  • asbestos
  • absorbent pads
  • batteries
  • bin bags that were not collected the week before
  • crisp and sweet packets
  • food waste
  • garden waste - a chargeable service is provided for this
  • liquid waste
  • nappies
  • oil
  • plant pots
  • plastic or foil based wrapping paper with adhesive tape, ribbon and glitter
  • plastic bags, food wrapping and film
  • pouches (baby and pet food)
  • textiles (please take these to your nearest recycling centre or textile bank)
  • toothpaste tubes
  • toys (hard plastic)
  • unopened recyclable items still containing food or liquids
  • other unwanted household products
