Petitions to the Council

As a matter of good practice, the Council endeavours to conduct its business and relationship with the community in an open, flexible and inclusive way. In this respect we are always willing to engage with people in a range of ways that encourage people to get involved in issues and concerns important to them and the places where they live.

It is hoped that people will feel confident about approaching the Council with their issues and concerns and we would encourage you to write to us in the first instance or contact your Ward Councillor. If these contacts do not satisfactorily resolve your issues or concerns, the Council’s Petitions Scheme may provide you with an alternative option.

In the period immediately before an election or referendum we may need to deal with your petition differently – if this is the case we will explain the reasons and discuss the revised timescale that will apply.
