More than 350 runners competed in the eighth annual Marriott’s Way 10K race, organised by Broadland District Council and sponsored by Whitwell and Reepham Station, McCarthys and Sweatshop.
Broadland District Council Chairman, Cllr John Ward, started the race at Aylsham and presented the winners with trophies at the finish line in Reepham Market Place where runners were met by a cheering crowd.
This year, non-runners were invited to get involved with the day by celebrating the Marriott’s Way with week-long events in the area including an art exhibition in Reepham showcasing the wildlife, nature and heritage of the 26-mile footpath, bridleway and cycle route.
Families were also encouraged to take part in the ‘get stamped challenge’ which rewarded anyone who collected five or more fun stamps from local businesses with a free train ride at the Whitwell and Reepham Station.
Winners of this year’s race were:-
Male Open Winner
NAME: Neil Adams
CLUB: North Norfolk Beach Runners
Female Open Winner
NAME: Emily Woodfield
TIME: 41:33 (New female course record)
Councillor Ward said:
“The Marriott’s Way 10k race always proves popular with runners and spectators and this year hasn’t been any different. It’s been great to see local residents cheering on runners in the last stretch of the race and taking part in the other celebration events in the area.
“We are lucky to have the Marriott’s Way in our area and I’m pleased to see it being used and celebrated by so many. Congratulations and well done to all who took part in the race.”
