Applications are now open for Future Paths, a new career placement programme set up by Broadland and South Norfolk Councils.
Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at Broadland District Council, Jo Copplestone said: “Future Paths will select applicants on their qualities, not necessarily their qualifications. We recognise that not every young person is suited to the school and exam environment, but this doesn’t always mean they can’t thrive in the workplace.”
Lisa Neal, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Growth at South Norfolk Council told us: “We believe Future Paths is a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain invaluable experience working in our teams. They will be helping to plan the towns of the future, improve the environment or fight homelessness.
“It’s a unique chance to prove they have the work ethic, skills and enthusiasm that we believe are equally as important as education when it comes to pursuing a successful career.”
The scheme, open to anyone aged 16 or over, will offer two to six week placements during the school summer holidays as well as careers advice, C.V. writing and other personal development opportunities.
The application process invites young people to demonstrate their personal traits and experience alongside their academic achievements.
Placements will involve working as part of South Norfolk and Broadland Council’s teams in a wide range of areas, from planning, environmental health or licensing to supporting local communities and businesses.
The roles are unpaid but small bursaries may be available to assist with travel and any other costs relating to the placement.
Once the individual’s placement is completed, there will be support from the Future Paths team to progress in the next stage of their career journey.
Applications must be submitted online before 30 April. Successful applicants will be invited to a recruitment day during the May half-term school holiday to see what roles are suitable for them.
