The 20th Norwich Brownies and 1st Thorpe Rainbows, based in Thorpe St Andrew, have received a funding boost from Broadland District Council as part of its ‘Member Ward Grant Scheme’. Every Broadland

Thorpe St Andrew Councillor, Ian Mackie, (pictured) has allocated his £500 to support the local Brownies and Rainbows over the next 12 months. Councillor Mackie said:

“As a former Town Mayor I had the privilege to see the wonderful experiences the Group Leader and her team offer girls in the area. This funding should support them to purchase new equipment and contribute to social events for all to enjoy.”

Brownie Leader, Christine Cutting said:

“This funding will go a long way to support the work we do with the girls, and to help us do even more. We run a programme of fun activities and meet once a week, we currently have 24 Brownies. The 1st Thorpe Rainbows have a rota of leaders and a small group of Rainbows.

We will be investing in new equipment, craft materials and also support the girls who want to attend ‘Seaside Sparkle 2020’ in September at Great Yarmouth. This is an event which has been organised for Norfolk Girlguiding. The Pleasure Beach, Model Village and Hippodrome Circus are working with girlguiding to make this event as accessible as possible.  There is a concert planned on the beach at approximately 5.30pm to round off, what we hope, will be a super and memorable outing for all.”
