If you are looking to lose weight in a healthy way without counting calories then a new group starting in Sprowston next week could be just what you're looking for.
Why Weight? is a 12-week programme delivered by Broadland District Council, which aims to help people make lifestyle changes rather than going on diets.
The 1.5 hour sessions consist of informal group discussions, food diaries and tips for making healthy choices - both when eating at home and out and about. Each session also has a theme and one includes group members going to a supermarket to take a 'healthy meal food shop challenge'.
Claudette Bannock, Member Champion for Sport at Broadland District Council, said:
"Why Weight? is perfect if you want to make healthier choices and enjoy fun, friendly group sessions where tips and ideas are shared. We've seen some fantastic results with people losing weight in a healthy way and managing to keep the weight off - often people only need to make small changes to their eating habits to see a difference."
One resident who has benefitted is Stanley Allen from Hellesdon, who was able to lose 3st 7lbs, change his eating habits and reduce his medications last year, thanks to participating in Why Weight? and Broadly Active exercise classes (both run by Broadland District Council) alongside the Weight Intervention Norwich Service (WIN) programme.
Speaking about the weekly Why Weight? meetings, he said:
"All the information from these meetings enabled me to cut down and cut out a lot of high fat foods."
He added that his life has changed for the better thanks to all the support he received and he is now a lot fitter.
The new group in Sprowston begins on Monday 18 February and will take place every Monday until 20 May from 10am to 11.30am, at the newly extended Diamond Centre, School Lane, NR7 8UA.
The programme costs just £6 a session or £50 for the full 12 weeks. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Maria on 01603 430570.
