As the summer holidays begin so does Broadland District Council’s school holiday scheme, Tots2Teens, which celebrates its 25th year this summer.
The scheme began in the summer of 1992 and is now as popular as ever, running during every school holiday throughout the year for hundreds of children in Broadland.
Over the years, Tots2Teens has hosted an array of fun and exciting activities for the district’s young people such as summer performances at Norwich Playhouse, celebrations for the London Olympics in 2012 and last year’s real-life archaeological dig at a Roman site in Aylsham which is also an option this summer.
New activities for the 25th summer include a mosaics and floristry workshop, a visit to Norwich Castle Museum and a very special Great Train Robbery day, in addition to the popular ‘fun zones’ which include cookery, art and sports sessions.
Other activities include a 'Mission to Mars' and a day in the life of Sherlock Holmes.
Charlotte Cross, 18, took part in Tots2Teens activities frequently throughout her childhood and now works for the scheme during her university breaks. She said:
“I remember doing a lot of fun zones but I enjoyed all activities because it was different every day. I took part in lots of cookery workshops because I loved making food which I could take home and eat later that day.
“I started helping with Tots2Teens when I was 16 and have now worked on the scheme as a Holiday Assistant for nearly two years. Even now as an adult, the sessions are interesting and exciting. There’s never a dull day.”
Cllr Stuart Clancy, portfolio for economic development at Broadland District Council said:
“Tots2Teens gives the district’s young people the chance to try something new during their school breaks, to develop new skills and to make new friends. I’m very pleased that the scheme has gone from strength to strength over the years and that we are able to mark the 25th anniversary with some special activities.”
This year’s celebrations and activities have already begun but there’s still plenty of time to join Broadland District Council in marking the 25th anniversary of Tots2Teens by enrolling your child in one of the great activities on offer.
Tots2Teens sessions run every weekday in the summer holidays until Tuesday 5 September and are open to children aged five and over who live or go to school in Broadland.
