Young runners are being invited to join in the first ever Marriott’s Way Children’s Fun Run on Sunday 8 October, hosted by Broadland District Council and sponsored by the Bure Valley Railway.
The free, one mile run is open to young runners ages four to 16 and will kick off the day of the ninth annual Marriott’s Way 10k race for adult runners. Children have the opportunity to wear their favourite fancy dress costumes for the race and a prize from the Bure Valley Railway will be awarded for the best outfit. All young runners will also be awarded a medal for taking part in the new race.
The children’s run is a one mile, circular route and will begin at Woodgate Nursery, Cawston Road in Aylsham at 10am on Sunday 8 October with registration nearby from 9:20- 9:40. The run will finish in time for parents to compete in the main race from 11am.
Cllr Claudette Bannock, Member Champion for Sport at Broadland District Council said:
“The children of the 10k race runners often come along to give their support to mum or dad. The new fun run invites all the family to get involved in the day and have a bit of fun. Hopefully the run will inspire young runners to keep active- we may even be looking at 10k race champions of the future.”
Register for your child’s free place at www.broadland.gov.uk/funrun or at the registration point on the day.
All runners are encouraged to share images and stories from the day using #MarriottsOfFire on social media.
Individual places are still available for adult runners in the Marriott’s Way 10k race which begins in Aylsham and finishes in Reepham Market Place. Entry costs from £14-16 per runner, £1 from each entry will be donated to Norfolk Trails, a charity that maintains Marriott’s Way.
Corporate teams are also being encouraged to enter the race. Register at www.broadland.gov.uk/mw10k
