The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and Localism Act 2011 gives local communities the ability to create local planning policies within what is called a Neighbourhood Plan.
Neighbourhood Plans are produced by the local parish or town council. They allow local people to influence future changes in their area by setting out policies to help get the right type of development for their community but the plans must still meet the needs of the wider area.
You may also wish to find out how other communities have developed their plans at Neighbourhood Plans Blog or read the detailed national guidance. Broadland District Council supports parish and town councils in the district that are in the process of developing a Neighbourhood Plan. For more detail on the process please refer to our Neighbourhood Plan guidance notes.
