Keep Broadland Buzzing

Free sunflower seeds are available for Broadland residents and community groups to plant in our local community. We have 1,500 packets of sunflower seeds to give away, first come first served so be quick! One packet can be requested per household. If you are also ordering seeds for a friend or relative up to four packets can be requested.

Sunflowers are perfect for attracting pollinators as they are nectar rich, brightly coloured and grow tall, easily enticing bees to your garden. Sunflowers begin to flower from August to October, providing a food supply for hungry bees.

While bees are visiting flowers for food, they are also busy pollinating approximately one third of food crops. If we all make the extra effort we can help support them in their vital job.

Thank you to everyone who has ordered sunflower seeds to help support local bees - this offer is now closed and we won't be accepting any more requests for seed packets.

We hope you have fun planting your seeds in the coming weeks to provide food for hungry bees over the summer. We'd love to see your sunflowers in full bloom so please take a photo when they've grown and tag us on Facebook (@BroadlandDistrictCouncil) or on Twitter (@BroadlandDC) along with the #KeepBroadlandBuzzing hashtag.
