When vehicles are being repaired on the road

Business vehicle repairs

Under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 it is a criminal offence for a business to carry out repairs, maintenance, servicing or dismantling of a motor vehicle on a public road. If you think these "restricted works" are being carried out please contact us using the details below.

Upon conviction there is a maximum fine of £2,500. Some minor breaches will incur a £100 fixed penalty notice.

Personal vehicle repairs

It is not illegal for an individual car owner to work on a vehicle on the public highway. If their work is often and a nuisance you will need to speak to the person concerned to resolve the situation. They may not be aware of the effect of their actions.

If you cannot approach them directly you may want to use our Dear Neighbour card to fill in and pop through their letterbox. If there is frequent unbearable noise you can report it using our online form or contact us using the details below.
