An air source heat pump extracts heat from the air outside in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from its inside. It can access this energy even when the temperatures outside are low.
Heat pumps deliver heat at a lower temperature than a conventional boiler, so radiator size needs to reflect this. In the winter the heating will need to be on low constantly to keep the home warm.
It is important to ensure that your home is well insulated before installing a heat pump.
Air to water systems may be eligible for the Renewable Heat Incentive.
