Celebrate 75 years since Victory in Europe Day (VE Day)
Friday 8 May 2020

In order to commemorate this momentous day in line with social distancing guidelines, we have collated all the resources you need to host your own VE Day celebrations, at home.

We have created some VE Day bunting in colour and a black and white version you can colour in. Make sure to include something you are thankful for and share it with us on social media. You can also find decorative materials on the VE Day website.

English Heritage are also offering a VE Day pack with instructions on how to dance the Lindy Hop Swing, a 1940s playlist and authentic recipes for ginger beer and carrot scones. Find our more here.

On the day, the whole country will observe a 2 minute silence at 11 am, as mark of respect to those who lost their lives.

At 3pm don’t forget to raise a glass, or a cup of tea, on your doorstep for the ‘Nation’s Toast’, thanking all those who gave so much during World War II.

At, 9pm, following an address by the Queen, there will be a nationwide sing-along to wartime favourite We’ll Meet Again by Vera Lynn. You can find the song and lyrics here.
