About Elections

Broadland District Council organises all the elections for the Broadland area.

Some elections are held on a regular four or five year timetable. By-elections are held to fill a vacancy which may arise during a Councillor's or MP's term of office. To be able to vote at any election, you will need to register on the electoral roll.

For all elections we publish a Notice of Election. After the closing date for nominations, an election will take place if there are more valid candidates than vacancies. The week before an election we publish the Statement of Persons Nominated, Notice of Poll and Situation of Polling Stations.

For referendums we publish a Notice of Referendum and Notice of Poll and Situation of Polling Stations.

Each election will have have different deadlines for:

  • registering to vote
  • postal vote applications
  • proxy vote applications

More information about the different kinds of election can be found in the pages in this section. Details of future elections are on our forthcoming elections page.
