Elections and Referendums – Thursday 6 May 2021

We ask that you only apply for election roles if you would be prepared to work under any COVID restrictions, but we can assure you that we will be running our elections in a COVID secure environment for all available roles.

Our plans include deep cleaning of Polling stations, one way systems, observing the 2 metre distance rule, communication to voters asking them to wear masks, sanitise their hands and bring their own pen, provision of PPE & hand sanitisers to staff, step by step online training to staff.

Polling Station staff will need to work on Thursday 6 May 2021 and will ensure that voters are able to cast their vote in secret, free from influence and in a calm atmosphere. If you are a good communicator, methodical, and quick to learn, apply to work in one of the many polling stations in our authority. There are two roles:

  1. Poll Clerks work under the direction of the Presiding Officer. They assist with keeping the polling station clean and tidy, answer elector’s questions and hand out ballot papers.

They must be able to manage a small team of poll clerks, ensure that people with additional needs can cast their vote, liaise appropriately with tellers, party agents and polling station inspectors, and maintain the secrecy of the ballot.
