Local Plan legal guidance
Local Plans have to be prepared using the following legal guidance:
- the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) 2012
- the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004
- the Localism Act 2011
- the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning)(England) Regulations 2012
The Council also produces a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) that sets out how it will involve communities and other stakeholders in the development of its Local Plan.
The SCI also details how the Council expects developers with significant development proposals to engage with communities.
Under the Neighbourhood Planning Act 2017, local planning authorities are now required to set out as part of their SCI how they will support communities in the production of Neighbourhood Plans. Chapter 9 of Broadland District Council’s Neighbourhood Planning Guidance sets out the support available from the Council to communities undertaking Neighbourhood Plans, and this should be read in tandem with the SCI until such a time as the SCI is updated to incorporate this information.
