Since 1 April 2013 the Council has been operating a local Council Tax Reduction scheme (CTR), which replaced Council Tax Benefit.
Each year the Council has to review and approve its scheme. Before this takes place we consult with customers and stakeholders to help us develop and update our scheme.
Council Tax Reduction
Council Tax is a charge placed on each domestic property in the area. The rate of the charge depends on what banding a property is placed in and the parish in which you live. The bands range from A to H, A being the lowest. An average band D charge is £1526.65 per annum (£29.28 per week) for the current financial year.
Council Tax Reduction is a discount which reduces the amount of Council Tax our residents on low incomes have to pay. It is means-tested, so the more income a household has, the less help they will receive.
