street litter and street sweeping
The Council has a responsibility to keep the highways, footways, lay-bys, verges and other Council owned land clean.
The Council arranges for the sweeping of over 2100km of highway every 15 weeks. The Council also arranges for the sweeping of over 600km of footways at intervals of between four weeks and three months.
A number of litter 'hot spots' have been identified as requiring regular attention and these are routinely cleaned on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis as necessary.
This work is carried out by Veolia Environmental Services, the Council's contractor.
