broadland's towns and villages
Broadland is one of the most beautiful districts in the country, made up of many contrasting landscapes. To the east lies part of the world famous Broads, Britain's finest wetland with some two hundred kilometres of navigable waterways.
To the west you can explore the gentle rolling landscapes and many beautiful unspoilt villages, with picturesque flint cottages, churches and houses.
During Medieaval times, Norfolk saw the greatest growth nationally in Markets. Every fifth or sixth parish had a Market serving a catchment of about 10,000 acres. This resulted in Markets about eight to ten miles apart, which kept down the distance a farmer had to travel to sell his goods. Most of these Markets were in existence for many years before they were given official charters. The earliest outside Norwich was Wymondham with a charter dated 1139. Unfortunately, by the 16th century many Markets had disappeared although the Market place, narrow streets and closely grouped buildings still remain as distinct features.
Broadland still has 3 Market Towns, which are Acle, Aylsham and Reepham. All have FREE car parking facilities and a number of shops and services to visit.
