accidents and injuries
Businesses which fail to effectively address their health and safety duties will cause accidents and injuries to their employees and their customers.
According to HSE statistics, during the year 2010 to 2011 it has been reported that there were:
- 171 employees killed while at work in the UK
- 200,000 reportable injuries
- 2321 deaths of people exposed to asbestos
- 1200000 people suffering with illnesses that they had acquired through their employment
It has been estimated that workplace injuries and ill health created an economic loss to Great Britain of £14 billion in the year 2009 to 2010.
If you want to act now to prevent your workplace from causing deaths, accidents and ill health then see the Health and Safety Executive website to get started.
If you need to report an accident, a dangerous occurrence or a disease which has been caused by work then please see the RIDDOR page of the HSE website or contact the Health and Safety Team on 01603 430608 for further advice.
