norfolk civil protection volunteers and equipment at their depotemergency response volunteers

Volunteers are often the unsung heroes of disasters world-wide.

Local volunteer groups are always looking for new recruits. You could choose to be deployed to scenes of emergencies, or help behind the scenes with administration or fund-raising.

Working with a volunteer group is an opportunity to put something back into your community; it can be rewarding, sociable and fun.

The following two emergency response groups have been supporting the emergency services and communities in Broadland and North Norfolk for many years.

norfolk civil protection volunteers

For more than twenty years the NCPV, now based in Aylsham, has been turning out in in an emergency in support the emergency services, other volunteer agencies and the community. Able to provide large-scale feeding, search, communications, rescue, shelter and general support, they are unique.

With the support of Broadland and North Norfolk District Councils, they provide a 24/7 callout response to any form of emergency, including unexploded bombs, missing person searches and fires as well as assisting with support and training exercises across the county.

raynet

Founded following the floods of 1953, RAYNET (Radio Amateurs Emergency Network) is a non-commercial voluntary organisation of radio amateurs who can provide both short and long range radio communications at short notice. When everything else fails, they will still be working.

They have permanently equipped bases at County Hall, Broadland District Council, St John's Ambulance HQ in Norwich and Police HQ in Wymondham.

When needed RAYNET can provide highly effective and reliable radio links for their user services, who include:

  • The 'blue-light'
  • Emergency services
  • Health authorities
  • Government departments
  • Public utilities
  • Local authority emergency planning units
