Liberal Democrat candidate Barbara Helen Rix has been elected to Broadland District Council in a by-election for the Buxton Ward.

Mrs Rix replaces Conservative Chris Davis-Claydon who resigned from the council in January.

The ward covers Brampton, Buxton with Lamas and Frettenham and the election saw a 40pc turnout of voters. The ward has a total electorate of 1,954.

Full results of the by-election were: Barbara Helen Rix (Lib Dem) 555 votes, Ian Victor Evans (Con) 201 and Nick Ball (Green) 22.

The composition of Broadland Council is now Conservatives 34, Lib Dems 10, and Independents 3.
