house to house collection licences
Where someone wishes to carry out charitable collections and will be going from house to house or business to business, a permit will generally be required from the Local Authority. This includes collections which are for any charitable, benevolent or philanthropic purpose.
If you wish to carry out collections in the Broadland area you will require a permit from Broadland District Council, issued under the House to House Collections Act 1939.
Some larger charities hold an Exemption Certificate issued by the Home Office. This means that the charity will not require a permit to carry out collections. However the charity should contact the Licensing Team to confirm the dates that they wish to collect in the Broadland area.
Collections carried out by commercial companies, where it is made very clear that the collection is for a commercial (not charitable) purpose, are also exempt from requiring a permit.
